Devon 24-15 Glamorgan
A disappointing trip overall away to Devon this weekend for Glamorgan. After coming off a comprehensive win at home to Hampshire in the first game of the season, hopes were high for another win to start the premier division season. The women’s B started off with a 3-3 draw in a close encounter. The Women’s B player of the match was Claire Crocombe with an average of 18.02. Well done Claire. The men’s B were up next and unfortunately things didn’t go as well in the previous game. Seven of the twelve games went to a deciding leg and unlucky for us we lost six of them. Mark Challenger making his senior debut won 4-2 with a very respectable 26.84 average. Well done Mark. On to the Sunday the “A” teams would hope to get us back in to the game. The ladies A would be up first. Missing Rhian O’Sullivan who was away representing Wales in the WDF world cup the ladies drew 3-3 against a decent Devon side. The Women’s A player of the match was Jan Robbins with an average of 20.24. Well done Jan. Next up would be the men’s “A” who would be looking to carry on their very impressive form from their first game. Sean Fisher would get us going with a 4-1 win and a 26.51 average. We lost the next 2 but Cavan Phillips got us going again with a 4-1 win and an average of 25.52. Wins then for Wayne Davies 27.79 and David Rogers 29.54 would see us go in front at 4-3. Wins also for James Richards, Shaun Dibbs and Lloyd Browning 30.97 who is starting the show the form that got him selected for Wales led Glamorgan to a 7-5 win. The overall score was 24-15 to Devon. On a brighter note there are six Glamorgan players in the top 15 of the Welsh averages (unofficial). Let’s hope they keep up this form and we have a strong response for the next game at home to Essex.
